Power-Packed Prayer for Your Summer Schedule

"Teach us how short our life is, so that we may become wise."
Psalm 90:12

I want my kids to actually know what A Summer Day really is like.

I want them to have memories of finding bugs, studying blades of grass, running in the sprinklers, and just playing quietly with strands of carpet in the living room.

And yet, there's this cultural cloud that wants to engulf me. A dark cloud I call busy. Summer hustle and activity bustle swirls around like a hot tornado. I want to pick wisely. Thankfully, I haven't been well enough in recent summers to even be tempted with that. But this year, knowing I'm well enough to let them do a few things, I want to be careful.

So I asked the Lord...

"What's the one thing that You'd like for each of my kids?"

I was surprised by his responses. But as always, I've learned He knows best. Even just trying to find those "one things" has been a little overwhelming because it seems you have to sort through ten choices. I trust He will make it known.

I'm not prescribing this "one thing" to you. I don't know what your family situation needs. But I do know the One Who Does Know. And today, I just want to point you in His direction. I'm so curious to know how your summer plans might change for the best when you surrender them to the Lord. Please drop a line and let me know if His plans surprise you! : )

Dear Lord, I just want to come to you and surrender my summer plans to you. I pray you help me understand that everyday is a gift from you. Help me not squander this precious season with them. Help me make the most of my time with my kids. Please show me if I have added too much to my schedule already and help me bite the bullet and cancel registrations if that is how you lead me. Please show me if I've been holding my kids too tightly and you are asking me to entrust them to a summer camp. Please show me how to care for my children at home. Give me creativity and ideas that will make them feel loved. Please be their constant source of stability in this season. I love you Lord. Thank you that I can entrust these days to you. Lead me to spend them wisely. In Jesus' name, amen!

Remember this old song? It's a bit of a blast from the past, but I really love it. As I wrote this for you, this song popped in to my head. I attribute songs popping in to my head as from the Holy Spirit. So.... voila. Enjoy!
